HETHERSETT ATHLETIC v WOODMAN Home 12/03/00 Hethersett entertained Woodman at the Rec, for the final league game of the current season. The champions made several changes in the starting line up due to injuries and players unavailable. Angus Greenhalgh took the keepers jersey to allow Steve Hyett a run out in midfield. Dave Martin returned after his operation to partner Jordan Mace in central midfield. Danny Gaskin dropped back to defence alongside skipper Chris Steward. Ben Watt moved to left back covering for the injured Scott Newstead. Mark Wilson after his debut last week found himself on the sub's bench alongside the ageing duo of Ray Thompson and manager Ian Harrison. Hethersett began the game looking full of confidence and passed the ball about well and soon had Woodman under pressure. The opening goal came after ten minutes, John Cooper scoring from close range from Dave Martin's corner kick. 1-0 Robbie Lincoln was full of running and his ability to turn in tight spaces afforded him the chance, but fired over. Rob Harrison then tried his luck but his miss hit shot fell to Chris Steward and his effort on target was well saved. Woodman were relying on long balls and almost caught the home defence napping, a kick from the keeper went over the defenders and the striker took the ball at Greenhalgh but fired wide. Ben Watt then had to leave the field with a knee injury , with Mark Wilson coming on. This scare brought the boys back to life and Jordan Mace saw his twenty yarder crash against the cross bar. Lewis Mace started the move for Robbie Lincoln to go past his marker and score low into the net. 2-0 A lovely move on the left involving Martin, Harrison and Lewis Mace finished with Lincoln's header going the wrong side of the post. Dave Martin's free kick just cleared the bar, Jordan Mace saw another shot go over the bar. Hethersett made it three just before the interval, Rob Harrison put Robbie Lincoln through, the chance looked to be gone when the keeper beat Lincoln to the ball but allowed the ball to break free giving Lincoln a simple tap in. 3-0 H-T 3-0 Hethersett decided to change the game plan for the second half, moving players to different position's and for a short time Hethersett continued to dominate. Robbie Lincoln scored his third goal direct from a corner kick. 4-0 Hethersett had two goals disallowed, Lewis Mace was adjudged offside after following Rob Harrison's shot then Harrison again saw his header ruled out. Lewis Mace finally got on the score sheet after a scramble in the Woodman goal poking the ball in from two yards. 5-0 Hethersett decided to "raise the stakes" for the final fifteen minutes and in the process the average age of the team rose dramatically. Ray Thompson and Ian Harrison came on to show the youngsters how it was done.?? The latter promptly wasted three great chances, much to the delight of his younger team mates. Ray Thompson showed that despite the years he still has the touch, fortunately for the team selectors this was the final league game of the season and the boy's places are still safe. RESULT 5-0 |
