HETHERSETT ATHLETIC v WHITE HORSE SUNDAY away 23/01/00 Hethersett faced another major challenge from third placed White Horse Sunday the only side to take maximum points from us this season. Three late call offs did not help but gave the chance for Andy Newstead and Neil Cockerton to come into the starting line up. White Horse stated well, playing some constructive passing football and they took a deserved lead in the twentieth minute. 0-1 The brother's Jordan and Lewis Mace were looking very lively up front and Jordan almost levelled the game but his curling shot was wide. Hethersett,s midfield finally came to grips with the heavy conditions, Scott Newstead, Robby Harrison, Danny Gaskin and Neil Cockerton all working tirelessly to break up the visitors moves. Hethersett got back into the game when John Cooper's long high ball was headed past the keeper from the brave Lewis Mace. 1-1 The Mace combination almost paid off again but Lewis fired wide. Hethersett,s second goal was a magnificent effort. Hethersett defended a corner and the headed clearance was controlled by Jordan Mace on the edge of his goal area. Jordan set off for goal and left the White Horse defence trailing in his wake. The advancing keeper was left beaten by the superb finish from eighteen yards. 2-1 Just before the break Steve Hyett saved the home side keeping out the on target shot. H-T 2-1 Hethersett continued to look the better side after the break and it was no surprise when Neil Cockerton scored his first ever goal for the club from six yards. Steve Hyett came to the rescue again, keeping out a vicious in-swinging corner kick, but from the next corner he was unlucky not to keep out the firm downward header. 3-2 White horse sensed the chance to get another and when Andy Newstead received his marching orders for retaliation the home side looked to be in trouble. Hethersett regrouped, Scott Newstead moved to full back, Jordan Mace made up a five man midfield leaving Lewis Mace as the solitary striker. Hethersett for the final thirty minutes were outstanding, soaking up the White horse pressure and looking to make fast counter attacks. A quick break from Jordan Mace and Robby Harrison put the visitors under pressure, but the final header just cleared the wood work. White horse were unable to cope with the pace of the home side and Jordan Mace scored the next goal, spotting the keeper off his line, he sent a delicate chipped effort into the top corner from twenty five yards. 4-2 In the final minutes it was the Mace brothers again, Jordan's shot appeared to be crossing the line but Lewis joyfully swept the ball home to deny his young brother a well deserved hat-trick. 5-2 RESULT 5-2 |
