Hethersett Athletic,s move from last years U17 youth football to this new seasons starring debut in Adult football was not without major problems.Eight first choice players were unavailable due to holidays and hasty moves to sign on parents and under 16 players from the youth team had to be made. Peter Steward our club chairman took responsibility for the first two games in the absence of Ian Harrison, also holiday making. Ten players were re-signed from last years squad, with four more familiar faces who had played for us at under 11 in the early days of Hethersett Youth F.C.  Eight more players were signed on the opening day to face our first opponents, Altec Rangers who were also facing player shortages and had to sign players on the morning of the match.

Hethersett faced Altec Rangers in our first ever taste of Adult football at the Rec. The mixture of youth and experience overcame the visitors with goals from John Fox  2,Dave Mannington 1,Lewis Mace 1 and captain Chris Steward 1 earning a 5-1 victory to give us a good start to the season.

Another home fixture against Unicorn Reserves saw more team changes,three under 16 players made debuts, Nick Appleton,Johnny Dye and Matt Steward all played alongside the experienced Ray Thompson and Andy Newstead. After a tight first half Hethersett again came out on top. Goals from Lewis Mace 2, Ray Thompson 1 and sub Chris Sutcliffe 1

Gave us a 4-1 victory.
