HETHERSETT ATHLETIC v QD STORES

Home

20/02/00

Hethersett entertained QD Stores at the Rec, and quickly put the memories of last weeks result to rest. The starting line up was kept the same except for Steve Hyett coming back to keep goal, Angus Greenhalgh was on the bench. The home side quickly settled and early pressure gave us the best start. Robbie Lincoln made the space for Lewis Mace to run through and slot the ball past the keeper. Nick Jones was using the right flank to speed past his defender and his cross was swept over the bar from Jordan Mace. Lincoln was denied by the keeper making a good save. Jones was then caught on the ankle and unfortunately had to leave the pitch. David Martin came on with Jordan Mace moving wide and the change paid off immediately. Jordan Mace played a pass that looked to be to long but Robbie Lincoln won the ball back and from five yards scored past the keeper. Hethersett were playing some constructive football with every body wanting the ball and plenty of talking and good movement. The QD keeper was having a busy time and he was making some brave saves, coupled with last ditch blocks by his defenders Jordan Mace was denied after a long mazy run, twice Lincoln saw shots flash wide. Rob Harrison then fired in a ten yard volley that the keeper superbly parried away. Dave Martin was having a big influence on his younger team mates and his work rate made the next goal. Lewis Mace applying the deftest of touches at the near post from Martin's cross. Hethersett saw a series of chances blocked  by the resolute visitors defenders before Jordan Mace ran at and beat his defenders to fire low past the keeper. Hethersett,s next corner kick provided the next goal, Ben Watt's header fell to Lewis Mace and he had a simple tap in on the goal line. The QD players had little chance to break and when they did came up against a strong Hethersett defence with Ben Watt playing superbly to win tackles and give the ball to his more creative midfield players. Steve Hyett in goal had only had two touches  over the course of the first half such was the home sides dominance. Three more chances went begging, Martin and Lincoln both failed to hit the target and Lewis Mace missed the easiest of chances firing over Harrison's cross.

H-T 5-0

Mace made no mistake as the second half started , taking the ball in his stride and beating the keeper from ten yards. Newstead fired a free kick over the bar, Danny Gaskin fired over from long range and twice Lincoln fired wide. QD still could not find a way back as twice Ben Watt made important interceptions to break up the visitors play. Hethersett won a series of corner kicks and finally made one pay, a ball was cleared out to Jordan Mace who rifled a half volley high into the net. Lewis Mace thought he had scored again, controlling  a cross from brother Jordan and firing home the ball only to have it ruled out for off side. Ben Watt's assist at the next corner provided Robbie Lincoln with the easy chance from close range to score. Hethersett took the opportunity to bring on Angus Greenhalgh to keep goal and Tom Ganley in attack and Greenhalgh was immediately in action. A slip in the home defence allowed the QD player to break clear only to see Greenhalgh make a brave save at his feet. In the few remaining minutes Lincoln saw another effort well saved, Martin ballooned the ball over and Jordan Mace saw his shot cleared off the line. Tom Ganley then delighted his team mates latching on to Martin's through ball and dispatching the ball past the advancing keeper.
