HETHERSETT ATHLETIC v BYSTANDERS home 06/02/00 Hethersett entertained a very lively, hard working Bystanders team who defended in numbers and looked very capable when they turned defence into attack. The first real chance came after five minutes. Lewis Mace found himself in the box after a strong attacking run but with little support the chance was lost. Bystanders then created a better chance when a low ball beat the static home defence but the ball was fired wide at the far post. The visitors were showing great determination in midfield and they were catching the home side in possession to often and closing down space to restrict the Hethersett side. Jordan Mace and Danny Gaskin in central slowly got to grips and they started to win control. Desperate defending and some brave blocks kept out shots from Jordan Mace and Rob Harrison. Hethersett won a series of corner kicks ,all well delivered by Scott Newstead but somehow Hethersett were unable to get the final touch. Bystanders broke again and a quick move found the home defence stretched but the final shot hit the side netting. Hethersett were becoming increasingly frustrated and were finding the visitors solid defence difficult to break down. H-T 0-0 The second period began in similar vein with Hethersett still unable to break down the visitors defence and a silly comment saw the referee award a Bystanders free kick. The quickly taken shot beat Hyett in the home goal but just cleared the far post. This near miss thankfully spurred the home side into action and for the next twenty minutes Hethersett began to play football with good passing and movement off the ball forcing Bystanders to defend in greater numbers. A Lewis Mace header struck the cross bar, Robbie Lincoln then saw his delicate header superbly saved by the keeper. The deserved goal finally came, another Newstead corner kick was half cleared and after a series of attempted clearances the ball fell to Mace three yards out and be gratefully accepted the chance. 1--0 Hethersett,s second came after a miss hit shot from Gaskin was going wide but Rob Harrison arrived at the far post to head over the keeper into the far corner. 2--0 The home side were rampant but the game came to an abrupt end with twenty minutes remaining. Bystanders Mark Halliday appeared to suffer a severe leg injury and the referee after consulting the visiting players understandably stopped the game. A wise decision in the circumstances, we will have to wait and see what the wise men of Norfolk F.A. decide to do about the outcome of this match!!!!!!! !!! The good news, after a call to Bystanders secretary they have confirmed Mark's injury was thankfully less serious and he has severe bruising to his leg. We all wish him a speedy recovery. |
