HETHERSETT ATHLETIC v ANGLIAN WINDSCREENS

Home

24/10/99

Hethersett entertained second placed Anglian Windscreens at the rec. On a damp dismal morning the home sides pre-match warm ups were disrupted due to problems erecting the goals. The kick off was delayed slightly but the match finally started and it was Windscreens who settled first. The visitors fielded a vastly experienced line up with players from much higher divisions playing at this level. Hethersett looked uneasy but they competed well to stifle the Windscreens play  makers. A twice taken free-kick almost caught the home side out but the ball flashed wide. James Reeve was causing the visitors defence problems with his deep runs on the left and from another run the fullback was crudely brought down in the penalty area. Hethersett,s penalty taker Robbie Lincoln stepped up to calmly stroke the ball home. 1-0

H-T  1-0

Gale force winds coupled with driving rain greeted the two sides for the second half. The tensely fought out  game was flowing end to end with neither side able to make any real chances. Windscreens were awarded a penalty when Reeve was guilty of a tackle in the box and despite the home sides protests the referee rightly gave the kick. Hethersett were relieved to see the ball finish high over the cross bar from the kick. Hethersett for the final fifteen minutes began to create chances against the tiring defenders and could have won another penalty when Jones was dragged down by the visitors keeper but nothing was given.

Twice Robbie Lincoln broke through but his early shots were well stopped by the keeper.
