ANGLIAN WINDSCREENS v HETHERSETT ATHLETIC Away 30/01/00 Hethersett travelled to second placed Anglian Windscreens in another title deciding match. Nick Jones and Robbie Lincoln came back into the line up to replace James Reeve and Neil Cockerton, who was unlucky to lose his place. Anglians started the better side and they put heavy pressure on the younger side. Superbly marshalled by skipper Chris Steward, his co-defenders, Ben Watt, Scott Newstead and John Cooper all defended resolutely to stifle the eager home side. Steve Hyett in the Hethersett goal was again in commanding form and made two good saves to keep the visitors in the game. Hethersett,s first half chance fell to Lewis Mace after fifteen minutes but his shot was saved. Hethersett came more into the game with the impressive Danny Gaskin and Jordan Mace winning more of the midfield tackles and releasing Mace and Lincoln to threaten the home goal. A brilliant save denied Rob Harrison after he had received a great pass from Jordan Mace. Jones, Mace and Lincoln worked another opening but again the home keeper made the save. The goal finally came, Scott Newstead fired in a cross from the left, Nick Jones first touch enabled him to fire in a vicious volley from eight yards that beat the keeper. H-T 0-1 Anglians began the second half again forcing Hethersett to defend and with the visitors defence likely to buckle they had Steve Hyett to thank again. Anglians made ground and with the home spectators shouting "goal, could only watch in disbelief as Hyett somehow arched back to tip the goal bound header onto the cross bar and catch the loose ball as it fell at the strikers feet. This magnificent save proved to be the turning point as the game progressed with Hethersett beginning to over power the tiring Anglian players. Hethersett then created another good chance when Jordan Mace saw Jones free on the right of the penalty area and his pass was met first time by Jones to rifle past the keeper for the second goal. Danny Gaskin then produced a long range shot that the keeper tipped over. Anglians knew it was not to be, when another header came back off the wood work straight into the arms of the grateful Hyett. Robbie Lincoln had two chances that went wide, Jordan Mace had his ten yard volley brilliantly turned past the post before Neil Cockerton fired wide when well placed. In the dying minutes Anglians could only hold their heads as again brave block from Steve Hyett denied them a deserved consolation. RESULT 0-2 |
